Your first visit to Twin Cities Movement: chiropractic and rehabilitation will start with a comprehensive history and physical exam. We will ask several questions aimed at finding out what the initial cause of your condition may have been, as well as talking about your general health, level of fitness, and potentially nutrition (although we focus first on the biomechanical issue at hand).
Our physical exam is used to find out what you are able to do without pain, as well as finding out what movements cause your pain. We also perform a functional exam based on common movements that humans develop in our first year, for instance, the way you breathe and squat. We perform this part of the exam because very frequently the site of pain is not the issue that needs focus. If we keep working on the area of pain but the dysfunction causing the pain is still present, the pain will keep coming back.
Before we start treatment we will explain our findings to you in a simple and straightforward way, and we will talk about what we can do to work with you to resolve your issue.
Our treatment consists of active care as often as possible, so wear workout clothes, and even be prepared to possibly do some exercise on a workout mat (sometimes you just need to start on the floor). In addition to whatever exercises are needed, we will draw extensively from our toolbox, using Active Release Technique, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization, K-Laser therapy (for an additional fee), and Rocktape, in addition to many other techniques as needed.
At the end of the visit we will re-check some of the movements that we found dysfunctional to ensure that we made some beneficial change in the office, and we will email you videos of the rehab exercises you should perform in the time between visits.
We are out of network with all insurance companies. This allows us to spend a lot of time with you, trying to figure out exactly what we can do to get you well as quickly a possible. We will provide a statement for you to submit to your insurance company. We gladly accept HSA and Flex spending accounts.
At first we see people twice a week, to make sure that we get some momentum, and that what we are doing is working. We find that, if you are doing your exercises at home, once a week is enough very quickly.
Your first visit will be around 60 minutes. Any following visit will be 30-40 minutes. Both will include helpful movement education, manual therapy, and chiropractic manipulation, followed by more rehab exercises to make everything stick.
Follow the link above, on the home page of the website, or the “schedule” tab in the menu bar. This will take you to our online scheduler, where you can follow the prompts to set up your first appointment.
If you have a question that is not addressed in this FAQ, you can call us at 612-234-8777. We don’t have a reception staff, so there is a good chance that we will be with a patient and unable to answer. You will be redirected to this page first, but if you’re here already, we strongly encourage you to leave a message, and we will get back to you within the same day. We can also be reached by email here, but that is not as quick.
If you would like to meet us in person to ask any questions, we offer a free consultation, which is roughly 15 minutes. This can be scheduled in the same way as a new patient appointment, following the same link above, but select the option “no obligation consultation”
